Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific today announced a content partnership with Viddsee, where select content from Discovery will be available online for the first time in the region, starting with films from the channel’s First Time Filmmakers (FTFM) initiative.  Fans will now be ale to view the full-length documentaries on mobile, as Discovery continues to diversify its product offering, engage new audiences, and make content more accessible in a multi-platform environment.

Singapore Stories

The Discovery FTFM showcase on Viddsee will launch this month, kicking off with Singapore Stories and Super Japan. Other titles include Nanjing Calling, Korea Next and FTFM Vietnam. FTFM aims to foster local filmmaking talent and help support the local documentary filmmaking industry. The films are available at www.viddsee.com/discovery  starting 1 June 2016.

Viddsee is an entertainment platform with award-winning short films that reaches millennials through its community-based approach to content distribution. Its daily curation of short films is distributed and marketed to online communities on its social, web and mobile platform. As a product, it is designed to encourage discovery, and to engage users with stories that matter to them.

“We are very excited to partner with Viddsee to reach a wider audience with this selection of films that has been specially curated for the Viddsee community. It is a great platform for us to showcase the rich pool of local filmmaking talent that we work with, and we hope this will inspire the next generation of filmmakers in bringing their stories to life in the digital space. Discovery specializes in telling local stories that resonate not just with the local community but also on a regional and international level. Distributing our content on digital platforms is only going to deepen and grow our audience engagement,” said Charmaine Kwan, Head of Products – Southeast Asia, Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific.

“In delivering entertainment to our community, we’ve seen conversations grow very healthily around genuine and local stories, as it helps with the discovery of the world around us. We believe that Discovery’s FTFM films will satisfy some of that curiosity in part,” said Derek Tan, Viddsee’s co- founder.

Singapore Stories is a series of five documentaries by budding Singaporean filmmakers in commemoration of Singapore’s 50th birthday. From a daily battle with birds on Orchard Road, urban farming, and the art of card flourishing; to a celebration of one of Singapore’s oldest housing estates and the creation of the nation’s first-ever marine park, these films capture stories of an emerging Singapore, confident of its next stage as a nation that is just entering its 50th year of independence.

Super Japan (5x30’)

Super Japan celebrates Japan’s evolution into the global powerhouse it is today. Free-diving female Ama divers – a culture that dates back 5,000 years; the extremely efficient Tokyo Metro system that is astonishingly punctual; the fixation on ramen; the globalisation and worldwide influence of J-POP; ingenious construction technologies and their invaluable contributions to the world – the series documents the country’s progressions and obsessions, and pays tribute to some of the things that make it Super Japan.

Nanjing Calling (5x30’)

These five thought-provoking films explore how Nanjing pulls off the delicate balancing act of supporting and growing technology and tradition, encouraging continuity and innovation, and celebrating its past and its future, as it prepares to host the 2014 Youth Olympic Games. From a visionary biker with a dream to create China’s premier downhill race, to a battle to safeguard Nanjing’s ancient city walls, to a cook-off to decide who whips up the city’s best duck dish, to the unique challenge of taking the city’s brocade making skills into the future, and even to a vintage collector on a mission to preserve Nanjing’s history through his amazing curios – Nanjing Calling introduces the dynamic city to the world and uncovers the real stories that show how the ancient capital has emerged in the 21st century.
