PhilCare & Samsung B2B collaborate for a revolutionary healthcare method

PhilCare and Samsung revolutionize healthcare availment with NFC cards

The country’s pioneering HMO PhilCarepartners with Samsung, the global leader in mobile technology to modernize and upgrade healthcare routine.

Samsung x PhilCare Collaboration
Samsung Business x PhilCare

Just recently, PhilCare partnered with Samsung Electronics Philippines Co. to offer the first NFC-capable membership card designed to make availment of health services from hospitals faster, more efficient, and close to paperless. I myself was a witness in this momentous event held at Garcia Villa Room of The Peninsula, Makati.  In this event, PhilCare CEO and President Noemi Azura discussed how this partnership works.

The process uses radio frequency technology called near-field communication or NFC, a form of wireless wave technology which allows two objects – a reader device and a storage device – to send and receive information via brief contact.  In this case, PhilCare membership cards will simply need to be tapped on Samsungdevices to ensure the secure transfer of data.

Samsung x PhilCare Collaboration
PhilCare HMO Card with NFC

The NFC-capable card means to do away with the usual tedious process of availing health services from health maintenance organizations (HMO).  In most cases, hospitals require cardholders to secure letters of authorization from their HMOs before getting medical services. All these are no longer necessary for NFC-powered PhilCare cards as members only need to hand over their cards to any of the 200 service providers of PhilCarewith NFC-capable phones from Samsung.

With a single tap, hospitals and clinics can now determine coverage and benefits of a member, as well as other details of the member’s account.

NFC technology is already being used by banks, retail, transport, and service providers worldwide and has been deployed to accommodate wireless payments, thus, making the processes easier and quick.

Samsung x PhilCare Collaboration
NFC-enabled Samsung Phones
Samsung smartphones have long been equipped with NFC technology, used for quick file transfers, payments and other transactions. Each mobile device assigned to affiliate hospitals and clinics is equipped with security features from the hardware level, and can be further enhanced with Samsung’s propriety security platform to protect such transactions from being leaked or breached.

With Samsung’s growing number of reliable nationwide service centers certified especially for Samsung Business, the company’s enterprise or business-to-business (B2B) arm, this partnership is expected to deliver even more advanced services in the years to come.

As Chad Sotelo, Corporate Marketing Head of Samsung Electronics Philippines Co. and also one of the speakers of the event, said, “Research and Development is at the heart of what we do, allowing us to continuously produce innovative products and offer progressive solutions for like-minded, forward looking institutions like PhilCare. Ultimately, it is our goal to enrich the lives of people”.

This new technology is the first of its kind in the Philippine health care industry and allows patient information to be updated in real-time, ensuring quick, efficient, and accurate service.

The launch of its new membership cards is only one of the many innovations PhilCare has set up to affirm its position as a pioneer in the health care industry.

In 2013, PhilCare launched its mobile application GO! Mobile, an app designed as a quick reference guide for members on their coverage and benefits while also giving access to complete lists of PhilCare-affiliated hospitals, clinics and doctors.

Just last year, the mobile app introduced various updates in addition to being made compatible with iOS devices alongside Android devices. With GO! Mobile, PhilCare members no longer need to call any hotline for provider information since it is made available right at their fingertips.

In addition to its mobile app, PhilCarealso recently launched its e-commerce website, becoming the first HMO provider to offer online purchases for its health care packages.

Bitten by the Battery Bug? Here’s the cure

When you buy a new phone, what's the first thing do you consider? Specs? Price? Brand?

How about its battery life? Specs on the phone will be useless if you can't use since it just died on you. Here's how the new Galaxy S6 edge+ and Note 5 cures that battery bug you keep on enduring for a long time now!

Galaxy S6 edge+

What is one important question that a shopper never fails to ask when out looking for a new smartphone? It’s this - How long does the battery last? Consumers and reviewers often go head over heels for the fastest processor chip, the brightest & clearest display, the most advanced camera functions, and the latest OS upgrades -- but all that will be for nothing if your smartphone’s battery can’t hold up. The battery indeed counts a lot because if you don’t get a day's worth of life from it, the device is almost pretty useless. In fact, a battery is never too much – it's almost always too little.

But what if there's a way to have the latest technology, advanced features -- and a long battery life to boot? Haven’t you always wished for a powerful smartphone with a battery that lasts longer than a just few hours? We take for granted how our devices are powerless (pun intended) without the battery. Samsung says that it's time to celebrate the battery by granting your wish.

Samsung cuts the need for multiple, constant recharging of your mobile device with its innovations in battery technology & power management. Particularly for its latest flagship smartphones, the Samsung Galaxy Note5 & Galaxy S6 edge+ are both powered by a hulking 3,000mAh battery, which provides enough energy to get through a day's worth of intensive activities, like preparing presentations, taking down notes, streaming movies, or going on a photography trip with the 16MP camera – all with the social media posts that come with it. But despite using all these energy-consuming apps and features, the battery’s power consumption is kept in check by its powerful and efficient processor. The Galaxy Note5 & Galaxy S6 edge+ both run on the latest and most powerful processor developed by Samsung, the 64-bit Exynos Octa-Core 7420 chip with 14nm technology, and a whopping 4GB of RAM. This allows both devices to efficiently share the load between cores, ensuring a lighter toll on your battery life.

Galaxy S6 edge+
Galaxy S6 edge plus on top of a wireless Samsung charger

Are you one of those wall-huggers who constantly hound walls and corners looking for random electric sockets to plug into? Five minutes here, ten minutes there – all just to get a few percentages back on their battery life. The Samsung Galaxy Note5 & Galaxy S6 edge+ are both equipped with Ultra Fast Charging technology which shortens charging time and satiates wall-huggers from their addictive habit.

Through wired charging using the Adaptive Fast Charger, both devices can reach 100% from an empty battery in just 90 minutes – which is up to 2.5x faster than other brands. They also come with Built-in Fast Wireless Charging capability. When used with the Samsung Fast Wireless Charging Pad, both devices can charge from empty to full in just 120 minutes, which is ~33% faster than the previous model.

Simply put, Samsung has the cure for the wall-hugging charging junkie. Most know that they've already been bitten by the battery jitterbugs but most just let it go thinking that getting a new battery will be a quick fix that will eventually lead to the same fate of the previous one. Samsung's continuing innovations in battery technology & power management give users more freedom and less dependence from power banks, emergency cables, and USB slots. With Samsung, you'll be able to do more, and worry less over your battery. You'll be able to review that presentation while on-the-go, and get fully-immersed on movie streaming after a hard day's work.

Indeed there will still be inevitable moments when there are no slots, sockets, or battery packs available for a quick energy fix. Again, with Samsung, you can extend your smartphone’s battery to its limits through the industry-leading Ultra Power Saving Mode. By switching to this mode, your Samsung device will shift your screen to grayscale and minimize all background apps, while still letting you take & receive calls, SMS, access the internet, and select apps like Facebook™ & WhatsApp™.

So now – why settle for wall-hugging? With the Samsung Galaxy Note5 & Galaxy S6 edge+ you can have the freedom to live a life practically free from your charging cables. Visit www.nextisnow.ph to learn more, or go to the nearest Samsung Experience Store to make the switch now. The Galaxy Note5 32GB retails for PHP36,990 SRP, while the Galaxy S6 edge+ retails for P39,990 (32GB) and P44,990 (64GB) SRP.

Internet savvy customers to drive SMEs’ technology adoption

Being Internet savvy has its perks, especially if you put it to good use. In a digital age, where more and more people are constantly uploading and downloading information from the internet, small and medium enterprises are adopting technology to their businesses.

In today’s technology-driven business landscape, having the digital edge can propel small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to success.
Abelarde talks about the Internet as the marketplace of the future during the recent launch of the first ever Bozz Awards

This is mainly because a vast portion of the country’s population – 44.2 million out of the country’s total population of about a hundred million – are active Internet users who transact online and mine its unlimited multi-media content.

This trend is partly enabled by the explosion of mobile devices –laptops, tablets, smartphones and even wearable gadgets like watches – that can easily connect to the Internet. Mobile connection penetration rate in the country is at 114 percent and there are 32 million active mobile social media accounts.

"The marketplace of the future is online," FVP and Head of PLDT Smart SME Nation Kat Luna-Abelarde said. "In fact, setting up a digital shop first before transitioning into a brick-and-mortar business seems to be the trend among the new generation of entrepreneurs. By harnessing technological innovations, SMEs can do and achieve more, and better connect with a new breed of customers."

According to Abelarde, equipping today’s SMEs with digital capabilities has been the mission of PLDT Smart SME Nation, the country’s leading telecommunication and multimedia company’s enterprise arm, since it came into being.

To empower and recognize start-ups and digital small business pioneers, the group unveiled the first ever The Bozz awards which seeks to recognize a new generation of digital movers and shakers. This is the first social media crowd sourced search for the next generation of leaders in digital innovation and entrepreneurship. The awards night, which will showcase winners from various categories including e-commerce, social media, customer service, mobility and social responsibility, will be held on October 28.

Ekoparty 2015 Back to roots

Empezó la Ekoparty 2015, Back to roots.

[Learn about the enemy]

[Warranty Void If Label Removed - Attacking MPLS Networks]

ekoparty 2015: Back to Roots

Today's the day! Ekoparty 2015: Back to roots. The biggest security conference in Latin Ameria is back!  Starting today the conference kicks-off with two days of trainings, then a full slate of talks this Wednesday thru Friday. The event will be held in the Konex Cultural Center in the heart of Buenos Aires and besides awesome talks there will be workshops, stands, activities, challenges, a party here or there and a lot more fun surprises.

Trainings

The first two days of the conference consist of innovative trainings that you would be hard pressed to fine in a run-of-the-mill conference. Some of the topics covered are software vulnerability exploitation, hacking mobile apps and hardware hacking, to name a few.

Full Conference

Starting on Thursday, you have a number of different talks with really a huge range of topics, some of the more interesting ones are:

Satellite TV Receivers: from remote control to root shell

Televisions have transformed a great deal from when systems were just simple receptors. Now they are much more like a computer and millions of them happen to be connected to the internet. This talk will do a quick overview of these systems and explain step by step how to hack tv systems step by step.

Sofiane Talmat has more than 10 years of experience in the industry working for IOActive.

[Learn about the enemy]

KrCERT/ CC, is a security center in South Korea that analyzes thousands of hacking incidents and cyber-terrorism every year, which many times come from abroad. It's suspeected that North Korea is behind many of these attacks and in this talk he will show some of their hacking methods.

Moonbeom Park is an researcher who works in KrCERT/CC and has over 8 years of experience in analysis. Lately he has been dedicated to studying cyber-groups from North Korea.

[Warranty Void If Label Removed - Attacking MPLS Networks]

Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) is without a doubt one of the most prevalent services large companies can build and offer in which the services are very easy to scale up. However, while be increasingly important it is an area that has largely been ignored in the cyber security community with very few important pieces of research about the topic. This talk will explain different ways to attack this system and different vulnerabilities and weaknesses found in various leaders in the market.

To finish off the talk, best practices will be shown and when applicable it will be shown how to remedy the vulnerabilities for various venders.

Georgi is a security researcher for MWR InfoSecurity in the UK which focuses on finding IT errors, reverse engineering and Network Protocols.

[Vot.Ar: A dirty election)

This talk which is based on a report done a couple of months ago by some of the more respected members of the Argentine IT Security community, they will discuss how they are able to manipulate the electronic voting machines used in this year's elections in Argentina. The speakers will show how to destroy ballots remotely, how to add more votes, how the system works and will talk about electronic voting in general.

Iván Ariel Barrera Oro one of the presenters is passionate about programming, electronics and elections.

Javier Smaldone is a programmer and system administrator. He has been developing free software for more than 15 years.

... And More!

Besides being a space to exchange ideas and knowledge, the ekoparty provides a number of number of fun (but informative) activities. This year there will be the usual lockpicking challenge, wardriving an expo and a couple of surprises for everyone to look forward to.

About the lockpicking challenge

This year the challenge organized by Infobyte will include a number of different activities. On Wednesday participants will be able to get a feel for the challenge and train a bit by doing some ¨classic lockpicking¨: opening different kinds of locks with different demonstations included. The same will be available for learning how to take fingerprints which will be an important part of the actual challenge. On Thursday and Friday the ¨full¨ challenge will be available for anyone to try their hand at. The challenge will include locks, biometric scanners, an IP camera, coded audio files among other things with the goal being to complete a paragraph with different clues. The person or team who is able to complete it (or if there are multiple winners the fastest participants) will receive literally one of the coolest prizes I have ever seen.

The ekoparty is a place for people that share your passion for IT security. We are super excited and we hope to see everyone there!

Yahoo Introduces a New Yahoo Mail App

Yahoo Introduces a New Yahoo Mail App, offering Multiple Mailbox Support and Password-free Sign-in with Yahoo Account Key. The new Yahoo Mail app is fast, smart, beautifully-designed, and composes better email(s). Also, it now supports multiple emails that are non-Yahoo accounts.

New Yahoo Mail App

Yahoo Inc. made a number of product announcements, primarily in the area of communications.

This month marks Yahoo Mail’s 18th anniversary, and the company is celebrating that occasion by introducing a new Yahoo Mail app that is fast, intuitive and beautifully designed. Available on iOS (iPhone and iPad) and Android, the new app comes with a number of features, including smarter search, contacts management and rich compose.

Most people have an email account from more than one provider. So starting today, Yahoo Mail users can connect and manage their email accounts from Outlook.com, Hotmail and AOL Mail, right from Yahoo Mail on mobile and desktop. Once connected, users can access Yahoo Mail’s features across all their mailboxes. (The ability to manage multiple mailboxes is rolling out globally today in the Yahoo Mail app. The desktop experience is currently available for U.S. English users, and will be coming soon to users outside of the U.S.)

“Email is the most prevalent way people communicate online. However, what we want from our inbox is evolving. Mobile use requires a faster and smarter inbox,” said Jeff Bonforte, Senior Vice President of Communication Products at Yahoo. “Both of these needs are at the center of our new app.”

In addition to speed, smarts and support for multiple mailboxes, the new app marks the introduction of Yahoo Account Key – a more secure and simple future alternative to the old password. This new feature simplifies the sign-in process with a secure and easy-to-use interface to access a Yahoo account with the tap of a button.

“Passwords are difficult to remember and secondary sign-in verification is inconvenient and confusing,” said Dylan Casey, Vice President of Product Management at Yahoo. “Earlier this year we launched on-demand passwords using an SMS code. We’re now taking a major leap towards a password-free future with the launch of Yahoo Account Key, which uses push notifications to give users simple and secure access using their mobile device.”

Watch Video below to know more about the new Yahoo Mail App

Availability

The ability to manage multiple mailboxes is rolling out globally today in the Yahoo Mail app. The desktop experience is available for U.S. English users today and will be coming soon to users outside of the U.S.  Yahoo Account Key is available globally today.

The new Yahoo Mail app is available in the Apple App Store to all global users today, and rolling out to Android users in Google Play starting today. Additional information can be found on the Yahoo Tumblr.

Happy Bug Bountying!

Faraday Workspaces for Bug Bounties!

A ways back when we released Faraday v1.0.11 we added a couple of graphics to better visualize and understand the price of vulnerabilities based on their severity.

We thought it would be interesting to prepare Faraday workspaces for Bug bounties from different organizations. As a way to kick off the analysis we did scans of the included targets.

In this first batch, the following Bug Bounty workspaces were created.

1) Github
2) Facebook
3) Google
4) Yahoo
5) Mozilla

To import these workspaces into Faraday all you need to do is download them from Github.

Unzip the content in /var/lib/couchdb/ and these workspaces will be available in Faraday database.

Remember to have Faraday configured with CouchDB. For more information:

If you happen to see that there are some targets are missing inside a workspace or you have additional information that you want to incorporate you can send us your pulls here!

We hope everyone finds this useful! Happy Bug Bountying!

10 Hidden Features of the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+

Are you already Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+ USER? No matter what the case is, Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+'s features and specifications gets you ready for work and play.

Here are 10 Hidden Features of the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+ waiting to be unearthed by you. It's up to you for the taking!

When the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge was first introduced earlier this year, it became an instant hit with many smartphone users. Obviously, the premium design and unique dual-edge curved glass display gave it an appeal never before seen in any flagship device. It's also a great conversation starter.

Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+ Hidden Features

The recent introduction of the much bigger and even better Galaxy S6 edge+ puts a lot of stock in the display. A bump in display size from 5.1-inch to 5.7-inch might seem insignificant on paper but it certainly offers better appreciation for the screen real estate.

Make no mistake – the curved display was not done solely for eye-candy alone. There’s wealth of hidden features that come along with it, some more practical than the others.

Here are 10 really cool hidden features of the Galaxy S6 edge+ that sets this Samsung flagship mobile device apart.

1) Set up quick shortcuts to 5 contacts in the edge screen. The curved edge of the screen offers a lot of really useful features. The entire edge of the screen can be lined with five of your favorite contacts so making calls or sending SMS to this group will just be a tap away. Just go to the Settings menu, select edge screen and choose People Edge. Then, pick the five people in your contacts you want to place in the shortcut menu. The next time you want to call or send them a text message, just swipe your finger from the curved edge of the screen to access them.

2) Add up to 5 of your favorite apps in the edge screen. Pick five of your most frequently used apps and add them as shortcuts along the curved edge of the screen. The Apps Edge gives you quick access to these apps so you can fire them up almost instantly even if the screen is on standby mode. You may also re-arrange them or change the shortcut links anytime.

3) Light Notification on the edge screen. If you're used to the LED light notifications in most other smartphones, the light notification on the edge screen of the Galaxy S6 edge+ bumps it up a notch. Edge lighting will flash colors of light whenever you receive a call or notification.

This works nicely when your handset lies flat on its face since you can still see the edge of the screen peeking out from the surface. When configured with People Edge, you can even assign different colors to different contacts so you'd know who's calling even before you check your phone.

4) Activate Night Clock along the edge screen in the evening. Best used in the evenings, you can turn the edge of the screen into a night clock. A small digital clock and date sign will illuminate along the edge of the display.

Since the screen uses a Quad HD Super AMOLED display, only the lighted portions of the screen takes up minimal power so you won't have to worry that your phone will run out of battery before you wake up the next day.

5) Get Twitter updates and News feeds straight from the edge display. If you are active on Twitter or follow a lot of news sites and blogs, then you can configure the edge display to show you the latest updates from all your favorite sources.

The Information Stream will automatically display alerts from Twitter, stock prices and news websites every time there are new updates.

6) Quickly send replies using the Heart Rate sensor. The built-in heart rate sensor beside the rear camera has many other functions aside from checking your pulse. Whenever you get a call but cannot accept it right away since you're busy in a meeting, just press your finger on the sensor for 2 seconds and the call will be rejected. A preset text message will then be automatically sent to the caller.

7) Use the heart rate sensor as a shutter button. If you take a lot of selfies, then this nifty function with the heart rate sensor will surely be a welcome addition. When using the front-facing camera to shoot photos, just place your finger on the heart rate sensor beside the rear camera and it will double as a camera shutter. Pretty convenient, right?

8) The edge display is for left-handed people too. The Edge display of the Galaxy S6 edge+ can be set so that the notifications can either be displayed on the right or left side. This means even lefties can take advantage of the Edge display features.

9) Voice commands to answer or reject calls. If you are busy or your hands are full, answering an incoming call should be just a voice command away. While the phone is ringing, you can just tell it to pick up the call by saying "answer" aloud or say "reject" if you are indisposed at the moment.

10) Wave to wake. This simple feature will surely come in handy more often that you think. While the screen of the Galaxy S6 edge+ is off, just wave your hand over it and the screen will instantly wake up.

Explore your Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+ and find the features that you feel work best for your lifestyle and needs. Some functionalities may take some time to get used to but once you've given it a try, they will feel like second-nature.

If you dig deeper into the settings of the Galaxy S6 edge+, you will find so many more features that you can tinker with. The Google Play Store also offers additional Samsung and 3rd-party apps that extend the features of the device, ranging from camera functionalities to battery performance and display eye-candy.

The biggest dual-edge display on the Galaxy S6 edge+ is more than just engineering innovation from Samsung. It's a testament that design and functionality can come together to produce a mobile device that deserves to be called a true flagship.

Which from this list is your favorite? What specific Galaxy S6 edge+ feature(s) do you like the most?
